The Women's World Draughts Championship Match 2021 will be held in Warsaw. Two grandmasters: Natalia Sadowska, Polish, two-time world champion, and Tamara Tansykkuzhina, Russian, defending her title, will face off in a series of 9 duels. This is the most prestigious event in this discipline.
The world draughts championship is played every year. In odd-numbered years there is a tournament, and in even-numbered years there is a match - or rather a series of several-hour-long duels played over almost two weeks - between the two best players from a given season.
Last year's championship did not take place, so this year, the overdue match of the women's world championship between two grandmasters: Natalia Sadowska and Tamara Tansykkuzhina will be held in Warsaw.
Originally, The Women's World Championship Match was to be held last spring - both in Warsaw and Moscow. Due to the pandemic and the sudden withdrawal of major sponsors the match eventually did not take place. At the end of the year, the Russian Draughts Federation committed to hold the championships. However, it turned out that the organizer did not take care of a number of formalities and was not able to fulfill its obligations, therefore the match was cancelled.
After these events, Polish Draughts Federation established cooperation with Chess & Checkers Games, the gaming studio that is behind the success of one of the most popular checkers apps in the world. We offered our support in organizing The Women's World Championship Match in Poland and decided to sponsor the main prize (20 thousand euro).
- Our checkers and draughts app has grown strongly in popularity and will soon cross the 100 million downloads barrier. Lockdown made a lot of people revive old passions and therefore the popularity of online checkers is growing. Our checkers and chess applications are breaking records, although we're naturally happy about the gradual return of face-to-face competitions - says Łukasz Oktaba, the founder and president of Chess & Checkers Games gaming studio, which has also released a very popular mobile version of chess (almost 10 million downloads).
While recreational checkers games are usually quite fast, tournament games last 2-5 hours. In sports matches there is an additional factor: time. It is measured for both players on a special clock. Whoever exhausts his time limit, loses. Usually the players get the general amount of 80 minutes, plus one minute for every move they make, but at tournaments also games with shorter time limit of 20 or 5 minutes per player are used to settle tied duels. This is also how the match between Natalia Sadowska and Tamara Tansykkuzhina will be played.
The Women's World Draughts Championship Match 2021 - https://mecz21.warcaby.pl/ - will begin on April 23 and last until May 3. The match will take place in Warsaw's Bellotto Hotel. The organizer of the match is the Polish Draughts Federation, and the sponsor is Chess & Checkers Games gaming studio.
